Watch The Times Kevin Maher and Ben Macintyre, along with Matthew Macfadyen and Kelly Macdonald who star in the film based on his book Operation Mincemeat.

The extraordinary Operation Mincemeat is the true story of two remarkable intelligence officers that changed the course of World War II, saving tens of thousands of lives and breaking Hitler’s deadly grip on Europe, by recruiting the skills of the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.

It was 1943, and the allies were to plan an all-out assault on Sicily. At this point, Ewen Montagu, played by Colin Firth and Charles Cholmondeley played by Matthew Macfadyen, two intelligence officers, were to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war and were set to face an impossible challenge - how to protect a massive invasion force from a potential massacre.

Matthew Macfadyen (Charles Cholmondeley) is most recently known for his role as Tom Wambsgans in the hit HBO series Succession. The drama series also gained multiple Emmy nominations and won an award at the Critics Choice Awards. Matthew has starred in the great screen adaptations of Pride & Prejudice and Anna Karenina, both opposite Keira Knightley. He was awarded a BAFTA at the British Academy Film Awards for his work in the British miniseries Criminal Justice, other major television credits include leading roles in SpooksQuiz and Any Human Heart.

Kelly Macdonald (Jean Leslie) is perhaps best known as Margaret Thompson, formerly Schroeder on Boardwalk Empire, the voice of Merida in Brave and for pivotal roles in work by some of the most influential filmmakers of our time – No Country for Old Men by the Coen brothers, Robert Altman’s Gosford Park and Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting.

The film, Operation Mincemeat is released on April 15 and you can watch the trailer here.
